Nigel Bishop represented The Guild at an Economic Briefing at the London Chamber of Commerce given by PricewaterhouseCoopers focussing on the hospitality segment of our industry. Whilst hotels in London have weathered the economic downturn well in terms of volumes, revenue per room declined. However many hotels in the UK Regions have not been so fortunate with declines in business volumes and business group bookings.
There is strong evidence that the hospitality market is recovering now in terms of volumes and yields but future growth will be very dependent on economic recovery, exchange rate opportunities and further recovery in the business market. And of course the hospitality industry is now seriously planning for the London Olympics 2012 and some 15 new hotels will be opening in London in the next two years.

| The Guild to open first International Chapter in Hong Kong |
|
The Guild will shortly be announcing the launch date of its
first International Chapter in Hong Kong. With a dedicated
Asia Member's page on the website, a list of new events and
an enhanced range of benefits there is no better time to join
The Guild and be part of its growing business to business
community. There is no need to stand alone when you have
the International Guild of Travel and Tourism supporting
you in your business endeavours.
Members are welcome from all aspects of the travel, tourism
and hospitality sectors including suppliers to the travel industry.
'Working as one organisation and community rather than independent country chapters'.
Country and international members will be able to promote their business through The Guild
including sponsorship of high profile trade events in the UK, Asia, Middle East, Africa and the
Americas. The Guild will continue to encourage members to use The Guild as a key business
resource says Steven Ballantyne, Director of the Hong Kong Asia Chapter.
The Hong Kong Chapter will be a bridge for developing industry business relations between
Asia and Europe. Hong Kong is one of the great international business cities and its strategic
location in the heart of Asia makes it the ideal location for The Guild's first move into the
global arena.
This heralds an exciting new era for The Guild and I am delighted to be taking this initiative
and leading this move towards making The Guild a leading international voice for the travel
industry - Steven Ballantyne, The Guild's International Development Director.
